Quantum computer solves problem, without running

Filed under: Journal — Norm @ 5:05 pm

my alma mater really delivered on the creepy quantum tech. this story is uber-interesting for how it depicts uncertainty. it is almost as if quantum uncertainty, by its nature, causes less uncertainty.

this is my read on the science. a photon is supposed to be fired at a series of quantum entangled atoms. the photon, when fired through the matrix of entangled atoms, should “return” the “answer” to a simple query of the data stored in the entanbled atoms. because the photon exists in multiple places at once, the “answer” position of the photon is already one of the possible locations for the photon, therefore it already shows up there.

cool! i love science!

was it the guy or the neckless?

Filed under: Dreams — Norm @ 8:11 am

so, last night’s dream was a doozey! i was at a large house. in the dream it was my parents’ house, but it wasn’t really. it was totally one of those mcmansions. anyway, it was a BIG house. they were having work done (i think it was new carpeting and new floors and some painting). so, everything was everywhere. i was only making quick trips into the house to find specific things, i was looking for my neckless (which was one of those chime balls on a string of silk floss). next, i went in to find a book. next, i went in to find a piece of plastic that i thought i needed.

soon, some guy came to the house. he was all agitated and upset. he drank a lot of orange juice. i invited him into the house so that he could call someone. he kept demanding vast quantities of food. first it was an entire brick of cheese, then it was a whole loaf of bread. it was kinda outa control.

i am just left with this feeling of comfort from having been in that house again (which i have never seen before) and indignation from the way that guy was acting.

gonna be a weird day.

Nate Harrison is cool

Filed under: Journal — Norm @ 8:03 am

Nate Harrison‘s site is pretty wild. some of the art projects/installations lose a little in translation to thisahere interweb, but they’re all interesting. please, please, please be sure to check out the amen and base machine documentaries. so worth it!

Ron DeCorte’s cool watch page

Filed under: Journal — Norm @ 7:58 am

TimeZone is a site about watches (a subject near and dear to my heart). i was absolutely facinated by the tech in these watches. so, you know, poke around and learn something about yer wrist wart.

the heady days of yore!

Filed under: Journal — Norm @ 7:50 pm

back before all this niceness that i seem to be spreading, i was a vitriolic sob. i was even praised once for providing the new high water mark in swearing.

so, just for you old schoolers out there who remember, i’m not a fan of dubya. in fact, i am pretty sure he is the devil and has sold our collective, new-scum asses, en masse, into a type of slavery that we won’t soon escape from. i’m talking about slavery to “the cause”. he’s done such a good job of being the bumbling, crazy-talking idiot that none of us seem to mind that he has taken our liberty and rights and replaced them with servatude to “the cause”.

what really bakes my noodle is that, for the most part, he is getting away with all this crap. he’s freakin’ bullet-proof. he appears to be able get away with any injustice. clinton couldn’t even play stink-finger in the oval office (i know i’m not the first one to point this out, but oval is only one letter away from oral). he got busted for something that almost every president before him got as a perk. dubya is torturing prisioners, imprisoning “enemy combatants” indefinitely — without hearing or trial, outing cia agents, creating evidence, invading sovereign nations, illegally wire-tapping u.s. citizens, etc. any one of these is impeachable. any one of these deserves a special investigator. where’s kenneth starr? he is getting away with all of this because of this stupid war, this “cause”.

i fucking hate us sometimes!

thanks, gov

“Wrong Numbers” and Stock Tips on Your Answering Machine

wow! i hate everybody who gets suckered by this one. i’m instantly thinking about “you can’t scam an honest man” and “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.”

i mean, is it just me? am i crazy? if you invest in a stock that was “accidentally” left on your machine, you deserve to be bled dry by these vampires. if you respond to an email for cheap viagra, you deserve your impotency. if you buy those “required” postings for your business from those “final compliance” notices, you deserved it.

if you are suprised that you got burned from mcdonald’s coffee, you are dumb. being dumb does not entitle you to monetary compensation.

i hate it here!

a general feeling of blah

Filed under: Journal — Norm @ 12:19 pm

i’m not sure what the cause is, but i’m just in this kind of funk. i feel, well, just blah. it’s not depression, it’s not sick. it’s blah. i’ve little motivation. i’ve got no energy to start any new projects (or work on projects that i’ve already started).

speaking of which, aaron and i are trying to slog through infinite jest and compile notes about the book as we go. it is a skill that i haven’t used in many a year.

i’m hoping aaron will come down for the weekend, at least some of it, so that we can make some more music and get some direction on the infinite jest thingy. i also just kinda hope he brings some energy to me.
