so, i did attend macworld 2006. these are my thoughts:
the show was not as big as the last time i was here, which was in 2004. i knew WAY more people this year, which was really nice. and what’s more, they knew me, which is nicer. the ACN community is really a great bunch of people and i always have a good time when we can get together.
i am not much of a party hound, so i miss out on some aspects of the fun, but i still had a great time.
in terms of apple’s announcements, i was a little underwhelmed. let’s run it down
1. iLife 06 – okay, i’m a little conflicted on this one. the improvements made to iPhoto are excellent. it is quite quick now. i LOVE the full screen editing. iMovie is also very much improved. the one button DVD creation in iDVD is impressive. iWeb – not so much. it just feels like apple missed the boat on this one. iWeb would have KILLED last year. today, i don’t really see the “apple” in the product. they have always had a knack for making sure that their products are innovative or easier to use or better in some way. iWeb does not seem to be that way. what does iWeb have over flickr, wordpress, and nvu?
2. iWork 06 – why does Pages do some spreadsheet stuff? isn’t that a little out of place?
3. iMac – looks good to me. i would have preferred to see it cheaper or more powerful, but looks good.
4. mac book pro – what can i say? three letters H O T! this thing gets hot. not kinda, not sorta, not warm – effin hot! i seem to be the only person who wasn’t surprised by them dropping fw800 and/or using pci express. these are good things, people. the writing was on the wall for fw when the new ipods didn’t use it. HELLO?!? and intel is pushing pci express like crack in china town.
okay, so there wasn’t much else. the whole thing was 20 minutes shorter than usual. did steve hold something back?
on the show floor, crypto card looks AWESOME!!!! so does zimbra.
there were A LOT of ipod cases. a lot.
:P
